Red and Blue

You are silent person in Pallet town. One day, you centure off into deeo grass alone; a voice warns you to not go further. Professor Oak takes you to his lab, and introduces you to his grandson, who also becomes a trainer. You are given a choice of three Pokemon to start off with.

Afterwards, Oak's grandson challenges you to a battle. He becoems your rival and battles you throughout the game.

Yellow is the only game where the player's starter Pokemon is a pre-picked one, and the only one that has the the Pokemon behind the player at all times. Pikachu is the only starter chooseable, just like the anime. That is basically the only differences

FireRed and LeafGreen

A silent person, you go out to look in the grass. The Professor's voice lure's you, and you are taken back to the lab. You obtain a Pokemon of your choice and a Pokedex. After that, you battle the rival, Oak's grandson.

Soon, you head out to "catch 'em all". The two games introduce two new elements: a help menu, by pressing L or R, you can search for help on a menu. And the review of your last game session. Every time you load a game, you are reminded of what you did last. It's a perfect way of remembering what you were doing last.
